In response to growing demand, the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) plans to build a new water plant named Boeng Thom Water Treatment Plant located in Por Senchey district. The capacity of the plant is about 5,000 cubic metres, according to the PPWSA’s master plan.

Currently, production of clean water is 600,000 m3 per day, which is short of the 800,000 m3 required for Phnom Penh and Takhmao city. According to its plan, the new water treatment plant will start construction this year and is set to complete in 2024.

In addition, the PPWSA will start expanding the capacity of the Takmao water treatment plant by up to 30,000 per day. Currently, the four water treatment plants are able to supply some 600,000 m3 per day. The new water treatment plant in Bakheng will have a capacity of 195,000 m3 per day to be pipelined by the end of 2022.
Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority has improved and built new water treatment plants in line with the government’s Sustainable Development 2016-2030 target and meet water supply needs.
